PERSHORE ROAD TRAFFIC PLANS - LATEST INFORMATION

Great concern has been expressed locally about these proposals from the City Council Highways Department which were distributed to residents in July.  An Emergency Meeting of the Forum Management Committee was held on Thursday 18th July and Selly Oak Ward City Councillor Karen McCarthy, who is also Chair of the Selly Oak District Committee, kindly attended the meeting. Many aspects of the proposals were viewed by the meeting as unsatisfactory and detrimental to efficient traffic movement and some of them as potentially very detrimental to the living conditions of Selly Park South residents, particularly those in the Kitchener Road, Hobson Road, Cecil Road, Fashoda Road and Manilla Road. Forum Officers attended the Selly Oak Ward Committee meeting held on Wednesday 24th July to make our views known and we submitted our detailed objections to the proposals to the Highways Department.

As a result of pressure from residents' groups and Cllr McCarthy some modifications were made to the proposals and a new document has been sent by the Highways Department to residents across a wider distribution area. The plans were made available for viewing at Stirchley Library and at St Mary and St Ambrose Church, Pershore Road, Edgbaston. Additionally the Highways Department held two drop in sessions where the proposals could be viewed and discussed with Council Officers at Stirchley Community Centre. Advance details of all of these arrangements were published on this website.

The official consultation period is now closed but there will be a special public meeting hosted by Selly Park South Neighbourhood Forum at Christ Church, 953 Pershore Road, B29 7PS at 7.30pm Tuesday 17th September. This will be a single item agenda meeting and City Council Officers will be present to listen to views of all interested Selly Park residents and answer questions about the Selly Park section of the scheme from The Avenues through to the Wardwards Lane / Cartland Road junctions.
